Southern Asia Division Organizes First Ever Master Guide Camporee

 The Department of Youth Ministries, Southern Asia Division organized their first ever Master Guides Camporee from April 17 - 21, 2013.  For the first time a Camporee of this nature was held only for the Master Guides in this Division.  The Camporee was held at Roorkee Adventist College in the Northern part of India, very near to Himalayan Mountains.  The College Campus was very beautiful and ideal to have a Camporee of this nature.  The main objectives of organizing this Camporee were:

  1. To promote Master Guide Programme in our Churches and Institutions.
  2. To prepare a road map for Youth Ministry keeping the present day challenges in mind.
  3. To bridge the generation gap between the elders and the youth.
  4. To unearth the barriers for the youth to participate in the Church activities and come out with workable solutions to eliminate the same.
  5. To foster fellowship and friendship.


The Theme of the Camporee was "INNOVATE TO SERVE".   There were about 325 Master Guides came from different parts of the Division to participate in this Historic Camporee.  The Camporee began with the inaugural service on April 17, 2013 evening.  The inaugural ceremony was very colourful and attractive.  The Parade, the March-past and the Flag hoisted by 14 Union & Field Youth Directors was really colourful. 325 colourful balloons were lifted up into the sky as a mark of inauguration of the Camporee. 
Pr. Jyothi Anbiah, the General Vice-President of the Division declared open the Camporee in the presence of Division Department Directors, Union and Mission Youth Directors, College Presidents, Union and Mission Presidents and a host of other dignitaries.
M Ravindra Shankar, the Division Youth Director lite the Master Guide flame and also received the salute during the March-past. Later on in the evening the key note address was delivered by Pr. Jyothi Anbiah.  During his key note address he challenged the Master Guides to live up to the expectations of a true Adventist Youth Leader.

On April 18, 2013 the Camporee began with the flag raising ceremony and it was followed by the Morning Devotion by Pr. Ezras Lakra, the President of Northern India Union.  It was followed by the first plenary session on the topic "The Experiences of the Elders and the vibrancy of the Youth is a perfect combination to fulfill the mission of the Church" it was presented by Dr. Justus Devadass, the President of Spicer Memorial College.  Later on in the morning 12 Strategic planning group discussion were held on various topics of concern to the Youth Ministry. Some of the topics that were discussed were:

  1. Strategies to take Youth Ministry to the rural parts of the SUD
  2. Strategies to use sports as an avenue in Youth Ministry
  3. Youth Ministry road map for SDA Institutions
  4. Social Media - an avenue to Youth Ministry
  5. Strategies to make the best use of technology in Youth Ministry
  6. Strategies for the Youth Evangelism ----- etc


In the afternoon the second plenary was held on the topic "The barriers for the Youth participation in the Church activities and workable solutions to eliminate the same".  This was presented by Dr. M J Prakasam, the President of Lowry Memorial College.  In the evening the Master Guides had a field trip visiting some of the important locations of the area.  The day came to an end with the flag lowering ceremony followed by the Evening Devotion by Mr. Milon Rana, the President of Roorkee Adventist College.

On April 19, 2013 the Camporee began with flag raising ceremony followed by morning devotion by Pr. Selvin Moorthy, The Under Treasurer of the Division.   It was followed by third plenary session held on the topic "The Role and Importance of Master Guides in Youth Ministry". It was well presented by Pr. Shekar Philip, the Vice-President of the Lowry Memorial College. It was followed by the Strategic Planning discussions by various groups.  In the afternoon the Campers spent their time in games and recreations.  The day came to an end with the flag lowering ceremony followed by Vespers Service.  M Ravindra Shankar, the Division Youth Director spoke during the Vespers Service and touched the hearts of the Master Guides with the message "INNOVATE TO SERVE".

On April 20, 2013 the Master Guides organized a thought provoking Sabbath School service followed by the lesson study by a panel of sabbath school Teachers. During the Divine Service Dr. Edison Samraj, the Director of Adventist Media Center spoke and challenged the Master Guides to reach up to the young people and serve them with innovative ideas.  In the afternoon the Master Guides organized very interesting Bible skits and other programs. The Sabbath day came to an end with a consecration service by
Pr. L F Lyngdoh, the President of Northeast India Union.  The candle light ceremony held during this service was like icing on the cake.  In the night a colourful cultural program was presented by each Union and Field delegates.   The Camporee was declared closed by the Division Youth Director M Ravindra Shankar at the end.

The Camporee was a very delighting experience for every delegate who attended.  They departed back with full of joy, happiness and satisfaction.  It was truely educative and informative.  The Praise & Worhship, Devotional Talks, Music, Group Discussions, The Parade attracted every camper.  Above all it was a blessed experience of Fellowship & Friendship.
