Northeast India Union Youth Congress

The North East India Union of the Southern Asia Division held a Union Wide Youth Congress at Riverside Academy, Garo Hills from January 11 - 14, 2012.

The Riverside Adventist Academy is a boarding school situated in the valley of East Garo Hills, Meghalaya State, India.   The academy is surrounded by scenic beauty with high mountains all around and a river flowing by the side.  It was a perfect place to hold the Youth Congress.   There were about 1350 official delegates and about 500 more non-official delegates present for the Youth Congress.   On Sabbath, the number reached 2000.   The delegates came from seven states of North East India.   The theme of the Youth Congress was "Come, follow me."

The Youth Congress was declared open on the evening of January 11, 2012 by Ravindra Shankar, Southern Asia Division youth director.   The key note address was presented by Dr. Lyngdoh, the local union president.   The local union youth director, Pastor Kullu, read the messages sent by the division president and the General Conference youth directors.

The Congress was filled with activities and presentations. The morning and evening devotions were presented by dynamic young preachers.   The song services and special music were presented by various language groups and were very moving. The Congress also involved a Bible quiz program, a witnessing session, seminar classes, skits, and games.

We were fortunate to have Pastor Jonatan Tejel, the World Pathfinder director, to be part of this wonderful Congress. The sermons presented by Ravindra Shankar and Pastor Tejel challenged the youth to follow Jesus and make Him their best friend.

It was a wonderful experience for each one of the youth who were present for the Congress.   They have gone back to their homes filled with joy, fellowship, friendship, and most importantly, hope in Christ.
