Following after the model left by Jesus, the General Conference Youth Ministries Department has adopted a servant-leadership model. Our team is responsible for seeing the vision and direction of the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist® Church implemented. Each person is responsible for their area of ministry to plan, implement, and execute the overall vision and focus of the Youth Ministries Department of the Seventh-day Adventist® Church.
World Youth DirectorGilbert R. Cangy Gilbert was born of missionary parents in the Seychelles Islands. He grew up in Mauritius with his six brothers and sisters and joined the Merchant Navy as a cadet officer after his high school years. He gave his heart to Jesus while still at sea in December 1975 and came back home to Mauritius where he got involved in his local church as the youth leader. Gilbert followed his childhood sweetheart Rosemay to Australia in 1981 where they were married. They have two children: Joel (25) and Emilie (20). Gilbert graduated from Avondale College in 1987 and pastored in the state of Victoria for six years before being called to be Youth Director in Sydney in 1993. In 1999, he was appointed as the Director for Youth Ministries for the South Pacific Division. In 2009, he asked for a change to pastor a local church in Sydney, from where he was called to be the General Conference Youth Director in 2010. Gilbert obtained a Masters in Youth Ministry from La Sierra University in 1997 and is currently working on a Doctoral program. He has an interest in all sports, particularly soccer, and loves music. His dream is to see youth take hold of the mission of the church and stand up as a global movement for Jesus to bring hope and meaning to our hopeless world. One of Gilbert’s favorite Bible verses is found in 1 Timothy 4:12, “And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanors, by love, by faith, by integrity” (The Message).

Administrative AssistantSilvia Sicalo sicalos@gc.adventist.org Silvia was born in the beautiful country of Argentina. She grew up in an Adventist home and studied at River Plate Adventist University (a place better known as Puiggari or "La Villa"). In 1993, she decided to make an adventurous move and traveled to the United States without knowing that she would only go back to her mother land to visit. Silvia spent four and a half years working with young people at a boarding school in Pennsylvania. In 1998, she married the love of her life, Eddy. A few years later they were both blessed with the arrival of their son Lucca and four years later with Emilia.
She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish Language and Literature with emphasis in Translation from the University of Maryland. Silvia is currently working on her Master's Degree in Second Language Acquisition.
A lover of the outdoors, camping, hiking and going to the beach with her family and their dog, Gaucho, are among her favorite activities. Silvia can't live without eating Italian food and enjoys traveling (but regrets not having enough time to do it often). She is very involved in her local church.
God has blessed every step that she has taken. She's thankful and glad to have the opportunity to minister and serve the Lord in youth ministries. Her favorite Bible verse is in Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Administrative AssistantMaria A. Dunchiedunchiem@gc.adventist.org From her start as a teenager in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies, to coming to Silver Spring, Maryland, Maria has seen every position the Lord has blessed her with as an opportunity to serve God through serving others.
Maria lives with her family in Baltimore, Maryland. The mother of three young adults, she enjoys traveling and being with her sons Andrew, Jonathan, and Nathaniel. Her hobbies are cooking, driving and reading and her favorite ice cream is grapenut. "Over the past years I have learned many lessons and truths, but one of the most important ones is this, that, 'God's gifts and God's call are under full warranty—never canceled, never rescinded.' (Romans 11:29, Message Bible). That is sometimes a very scary reality, but it is also humbling because it makes me realize that each of us have to walk in the calling that God has called us to, and His way is always the best."
Editorial AssistantErica Richardsrichardse@gc.adventist.org Erica was born and raised in Maryland where she attended Spencerville Adventist Academy for 13 years. After graduating from high school in 2006, she made the 600 mile trek to Collegedale, Tennessee where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from Southern Adventist University. Erica enjoys reading, horse-back riding, going to the beach, and being with friends. She has a passion for connecting with her fellow youth and is excited to be a part of the Youth Ministries Department. She keeps Jeremiah 29:11 close to her heart: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
